How to Manufacture a Product With the Right Factory

Manufacturing starts after you’ve tested the product design and confirmed demand. At this stage, the goal is to turn approved files and samples into consistent inventory.

A factory can’t give you a dependable quote from a sketch or short description. It needs enough detail to choose materials, plan each process and estimate labor.

Prepare these items before contacting manufacturers:

  • A bill of materials with parts, materials and finishes
  • Measurements and acceptable tolerances
  • Performance and durability requirements

4. Compare Manufacturing Quotes

Unit price tells only part of the story. Compare the full cost and the terms that affect your cash.

5. Vet the Factory

Confirm that the supplier is a real factory. If it uses partner facilities, ask which work takes place elsewhere. Review business records, certifications and customer references.

A factory audit should check equipment, worker training, material controls and inspection records. Review storage conditions and past work in the same product category.

6. Order and Test Factory Samples
